Brazing is a process by which two or more metal items are joined to form a stronger material. Broadly similar to soldering, brazing offers a number of advantages such as the ability to join dissimilar metals or even non-metals. The process produces very clean joints meaning there is never a need for secondary finishing and it offers much tighter control over tolerances. Brazed joins can also be coated or clad to allow for additional protection of the finished component.
Brazing also offers the ability to join materials that cannot normally be welded
This includes such things as thin metal sheets and pipes, resulting in an excellent seal. The process can also be automated, allowing for larger-scale production runs.
Two kinds of brazing
Skilcraft understands the brazing process very well and offers our customers two heating technique alternatives:
- Oven brazing - here, the entire fabrication is heated in a protective atmosphere which permits a greater degree of control over every stage of the heating and cooling cycle
- Torch brazing - a more localized heating option ideal for smaller production volumes or for specialized operations including hard-to-reach applications
Both techniques have varied applications across a broad array of fabricated components for many different uses.
